5 Reasons Odessa Shooters Make the Drive

01
Closest custom builder to Ector County

There are a couple of Manufacturer FFLs in Odessa (Black Flag Customs, Talking Iron Customs), but if you want someone who handles full builds AND Cerakote AND suppressor transfers in one shop, you're looking at an hour or more to Dallas or Houston. We're 50 minutes. That's closer than a lot of the places Odessa residents drive for everything else.

02
No more Dallas/Houston suppressor wait lists

If you've tried to get a Form 4 transfer through a shop in the big cities, you know the drill: long waits, generic service, no communication. We handle eForm 4 transfers locally. Same legal process, faster access, and you talk to the same person the whole time.

03
We work around oilfield schedules

Whether you're on a 7-on/7-off rotation or a 14-and-out, you can't always make it to a shop during normal business hours. We do Saturday appointments by request. If you're coming back from a hitch, we can find a window that works.

04
Custom builds without the boutique markup

Custom builds at the big shops in DFW come with big-shop pricing. We're independent, overhead is lower, and we pass that back into the work. A build that would run you $1,800 in a Garland storefront runs significantly less here.

05
Cerakote done in-house, not sent out

We spray Cerakote at the bench in Andrews. That means the guy applying it is the guy who built the gun. You don't get color mismatches from a batch job, and you don't wait six weeks for a shop to find a slot with their coater. We do it when it's ready to do.

Questions from Odessa Customers

How long is the drive from Odessa to your shop?

About 45 miles and 50 minutes. Take I-20 west to the Andrews exit (176), north on TX-158, and you're there. It's a straightforward drive — and when you're talking to a custom gunsmith who actually picks up the phone, it's worth the trip.

I'm on an oilfield rotation — can I come on a weekend or outside normal hours?

Yes. We're open Monday through Friday 8am–5pm, and we do Saturday appointments by request. If you're coming off a 7-on/7-off cycle and want to knock out a suppressor transfer or start a build on your time off, call ahead and we'll set it up. We work with Ector County schedules regularly.

Can I ship my firearm to you instead of driving?

Only through a licensed FFL. Federal law prevents private individuals from shipping firearms directly, but any FFL in Odessa can send one our way. If you bought from an online retailer and they're asking for an FFL to ship to, give them our info. We'll handle the receipt and get in touch when it arrives.

How does a suppressor transfer work if I'm buying from an online retailer?

The retailer ships to us. We receive under our Class 03 SOT, file the eForm 4 with the ATF on your behalf, and notify you when the transfer clears and your item is ready. Typical ATF processing: 90–180 days. We track everything and keep you informed — not a form email, an actual call or text when there's news.

Do you serve UTPB students or faculty?

Yes — UT Permian Basin is in our service area. If you're buying your first rifle or need work done on something for a course or competition, come by. We can help with everything from a basic build to Cerakote for a custom competition rifle.

Suppressor Transfers in the Permian Basin

Wondering how the eForm process works for suppressor transfers? We break down the current timeline, what to bring to the shop, and how to avoid the big-city wait for Ector and Midland County residents.
