NFA Transfers
Suppressors, SBRs, AOWs, and machine guns
ATF eForm 4 transfers for suppressors and SBRs now average 4–11 days as of 2026. The $200 tax stamp on these items was eliminated effective January 1, 2026 per the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Machine guns and destructive devices still require a $200 tax.
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Completed Form 4473 (we can help with this on-site)
- Digital EFT fingerprint file or a physical FD-258 fingerprint card
- CLEO (Chief Law Enforcement Officer) notification is still required — we handle the BATFE side
Contact us before your appointment to confirm all current requirements, as BATFE procedures can change.
Both are legal. Individual transfers use your name as the transferee — if you pass away, the item goes through probate. A trust lets multiple people possess and manage the NFA item without going through the ATF transfer process again for each person added to the trust. Many customers prefer trusts for estate planning purposes. We don't give legal advice — talk to an attorney if you're unsure.
The transfer fee is $100 per item transferred. This covers the transfer paperwork, BATFE eForm submission, and logging the serial number into our compliance system. Start a suppressor transfer here or see all pricing.
No. Possession of an NFA item before the stamp clears is a federal felony. You cannot handle, shoot, or even hold the firearm until your approved Form 4 is in hand. This is true even if the transfer agent has the item in stock — the stamp approval comes from BATFE, not from us.
Cerakote
Durable firearm finish, applied in-house
Standard single-color Cerakote on a single component: 2–4 weeks. Complex, multi-color, battleworn, or camo patterns: 4–8 weeks. Larger projects with multiple components take proportionally longer. See examples in our portfolio.
Yes, if possible — separating upper/lower receivers, removing grips, stocks, and optics before drop-off speeds things up and avoids disassembly charges. We can also disassemble at our standard rate. Please do not send live ammunition with your firearm.
Metal, polymer, and wood can all be Cerakoted. Common items include receivers, barrels, slides, chassis systems, pistol grips, stocks, and handguards. Some exotic materials require special prep — ask before you ship.
Single-color Cerakote starts at $150 per component. Multi-color, camo, and battleworn patterns cost more based on complexity and number of colors. See the services page for full pricing or request a quote for your specific project.
Allow 3 days after pickup before first use. Cerakote cures chemically during application but reaches full hardness over the first 72 hours. Shooting too early can cause premature wear or marking.
Custom Builds & Manufacturer FFL
Your build, serialized and done right
A Type 07 FFL lets us manufacture our own firearm lowers and complete builds in-house. We can serialize our own builds, work on 80% lowers and turn them into serialized firearms, and ship completed firearms directly to customers (FFL-to-FFL for other dealers, or directly to end users for our own builds). This also means we can handle the complete build process — milling, finishing, assembly — under one roof.
A $250 deposit is required to begin any custom build. This covers the initial consultation, bench slot reservation, and parts sourcing time. The remainder is due before pickup or shipment. Start a build intake here or request a quote first if you're still deciding.
Typical builds run 8–16 weeks depending on parts availability and build complexity. Bolt-action precision builds often take longer due to barrel lead times from boutique manufacturers. AR-platform builds can close faster if parts are in stock. We give you a realistic estimate at quote time and check in when there are changes.
We build primarily for West Texas use cases — hunting, hog control, and long-range target shooting. Most common calibers: .308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, .300 Win Mag, .223/5.56, and .300 Blackout. We also work with 6mm Creedmoor, .243, 7mm Rem Mag, and others on request. Tell us what you're hunting or shooting and we'll recommend the right caliber.
Both. Hunting builds prioritize reliability in field conditions, appropriate barrel length for the terrain, and durability in sand and dust — which is relevant out here. Competition builds lean toward accuracy: heavier barrels, tight chamber specs, and match-grade triggers. Some customers want a rifle that does both — that's a real conversation about trade-offs, and we'll have it with you before we quote.
Yes, with conditions. We inspect all customer-supplied components before accepting them into a build — quality verification and serial number check are non-negotiable. We will not work on parts with altered, missing, or obliterated serials. Bring what you have and we'll go over it at intake. Customer-supplied parts save money on components but don't change the labor rate.
Completed builds ship via FFL-to-FFL transfer through a licensed dealer in the recipient's area. We handle the outbound logistics — you just arrange a receiving FFL near you. Alternatively, you can pick up in person at the shop.
Laser Engraving
Personalization, maker's marks, and gift work
We prefer SVG, AI, or DXF for vector artwork — these scale cleanly and produce the sharpest results. High-resolution PNG or TIFF (300 DPI minimum) works for logos that don't need resizing. Photos and complex gradients don't translate well to metal engraving. If you're not sure, send us a quote request with your artwork attached and we'll tell you if it's usable.
Steel, aluminum, stainless, anodized aluminum, and hardwood all engrave well. Polymer receivers can be engraved but results vary by material — some polymers char rather than mark cleanly. Coated or Cerakoted surfaces: we can engrave after coating for a two-tone effect. We can also Cerakote after engraving for contrast fill.
Most firearm components fall well within our working envelope. We handle everything from small handgun slides to full rifle receivers and long gun stocks. Minimum practical mark size is around 0.03" — smaller than that and legibility suffers on most metals. Contact us if you have an unusually large or oddly shaped piece.
Yes — it's one of the most common requests. Names, dates, military unit insignia, memorial dedications. Turn-around for a simple gift engrave (name/date/short text on a single component) is typically 3–7 business days. Plan ahead for holidays — December books up fast. FFL Transfers (Incoming)
Shipping a firearm to RMCS Arms from another dealer
Standard FFL-to-FFL transfer fee is $50 per firearm. This covers the paperwork, Form 4473 processing, and NICS background check. See our services page for full pricing.
- Valid government-issued photo ID — Texas DL, state ID, or passport
- Form 4473 — completed at pickup, in person. Required by federal law for every transfer of a serialized firearm.
- NICS background check — run at time of pickup (not at order time)
Out-of-state buyers: your state's laws still apply. If your state has a waiting period or additional documentation requirement, we follow it.
Most NICS checks return Proceed in minutes. If the check returns a Delay, federal law permits transfer after 3 business days — but we hold the firearm until we receive a Proceed or the legal hold period expires, whichever comes first. We contact you when it's ready for pickup.
A NICS denial means we cannot legally transfer the firearm to you. The firearm is returned to the sending dealer. You may appeal directly to the FBI's NICS Section — the denial paperwork we provide includes instructions. Transfer fees are non-refundable once a Form 4473 is initiated, as the work has already been completed.
Gunsmithing
General repairs, accurizing, and work we do and don't accept
Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended to guarantee time with Ronald. Call or text ahead to lock in a slot, especially for larger work. See our current hours on the about page.
Labor rate is $85/hr, 1-hour minimum. Simple diagnostic inspections are sometimes waived if the issue is immediately identifiable — we'll tell you before we start the clock. See the services page for flat-rate pricing on common jobs.
We do not work on full-auto conversions, short-barrel modifications without proper NFA paperwork in hand, or firearms with altered, missing, or obliterated serial numbers. We also decline work that would place a firearm outside compliance with Texas or federal law. If we can't help, we'll say so upfront and try to point you in the right direction.
Contact us to discuss specific accuracy work, barrel threading, crown restoration, and similar gunsmithing tasks. We handle a wide range of precision work — describe your project on the quote form and we'll let you know what's feasible.
